In May 2025, The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media published a report into the Basic Income for the Arts scheme, where artists received a weekly stipend of €325 over a period of three years.

The recipients said the scheme improved their mental health, made them feel more empowered and gave them much more stability in their life and work.

Arts Minister Patrick O’Donovan has backed retaining the Basic Income Scheme for artists and it is likely to be rolled out again in late 2025.
